The 'next Kyoto' – unprecedented forest destruction or protection?
At the end of next year, world leaders will meet to decide the framework of the next international climate agreement, and with it, the future of our planet.
But there’s a real risk the ‘next Kyoto’ could actually drive the unprecedented destruction of the world’s carbon-storing forests... increasing climate change and destroying our planet's natural ability to draw carbon out of the atmosphere
And the timeline we have to stop this from happening is alarmingly short.
Support our campaign by taking two urgent actions:
- Let's get 100,000 messages to Prime Minister Rudd. Sign our cyberaction and forward it to as many people as you can
- We urgently need to inject $1,000,000 into our campaign budget to protect Australia’s and the world's forests as part of the climate solution.

ANZ pulp-mill protest rally in Melbourne cancelled!
 |

|
| We congratulate ANZ! |
Well done ANZ for making the right decision
The No ANZ Pulp Mill rally planned for Melbourne on June 15 has been cancelled following a number of reports that the ANZ will not fund Gunns’ proposed pulp mill in Tasmania. Whilst the ANZ has yet to confirm this report, The Wilderness Society believes that it is correct.
We congratulate the ANZ for making a socially and environmentally responsible decision. It is great to see banks taking social and environmental issues seriously and this decisions sets a great precedent – Gunns’ own banker would not fund the pulp mill.

WildEndurance - a great weekend!
WildEndurance is over! A fantastic weekend - won by Victoria's Restaurant in a stunning time of 16h 3m.
The conditions: excellent but cold at night. Some 35 teams gathered with their support crew at the start on Saturday morning. The excitement was palpable. Organiser Sean Greenhill gave the advice - "be kind to your crew" - and blew the horn and they were off. (see race start on YouTube)
Teams had four checkpoints to make where they could rest and fuel up. The checkpoints were going, like many of the particpants, 24 hours a day and were run by a wonderful crew of volunteers who served up warmth and food.
On Saturday night, after midnight, at the finish, team Victoria's Restaurant, looking mostly fresh, trotted professionally over the finish line. (See the winners run home on YouTube)

ANZ shareholders encouraged to band together
 |
 |
Community protesters inform ANZ customers and the public of ANZ's potential role in funding Gunns' pulp mill, Sydney. |
|
The Wilderness Society is encouraging shareholders of Gunns Ltd’s banker, ANZ Bank, to get in touch and form a syndicate of concerned shareholders who have the power to call an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) should ANZ fund Gunns’ pulp mill in Tasmania.
Australia’s Corporations Act 2001 has provisions aimed at ensuring that the will of shareholders is reflected in the running of their company. EGMs give shareholders the opportunity to express their will and to obtain critical information. To force an EGM, the commitment of 100 shareholders is needed.
If you own shares in ANZ, you have a critical role to play in deciding on the future of our forests, climate and economy.
